About the role

Allandale Veterinary Hospital – Barrie, ON

Do you love learning?

Do you want to be proud of where you work?

Do you want to make a real difference for animals, clients, and your community?

If so, Allandale Veterinary Hospital would love to meet you.

We are a busy, progressive 13-doctor veterinary hospital with a long-standing reputation for excellence in Barrie and beyond. Our team is deeply involved in community initiatives including the Barrie Food Bank, rescue partnerships, and work with The Global Alliance for Animals and People in Northern Ontario.

We are AAHA accredited and CVO accredited, and we hold ourselves to the highest standards of patient care, client service, and teamwork.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment where every day brings something new to learn — and, of course, something fluffy to cuddle.

The Role

Veterinary Assistants are the primary support for the entire hospital team. Every department relies on this role to help deliver exceptional patient care and outstanding client service.

You Will

Assist with patient care and treatments. Monitor hospitalized and post-surgical patients. Safely restrain animals for procedures (blood draws, nail trims, exams). Assist with diagnostics (radiographs, lab samples, bloodwork). Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment. Clean and disinfect kennels and treatment areas. Administer medications under veterinarian/RVT supervision. Provide comfort and care to patients.

What We’re Looking For

A motivated self-starter who can multitask and works well in a team. Someone who genuinely enjoys working with animals, including those who are stressed, ill, or in pain, using safe handling principles. Veterinary Assistant College Certificate preferred (but not required). 1+ year of experience preferred (but not required — we will train the right person). Strong communication and teamwork skills. Comfort working in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Why Allandale?

You will be joining a team of highly devoted animal advocates who care deeply about their patients, their clients, their community, and each other. This is a place where you can learn, grow, and feel proud of the work you do every day. We offer a generous benefits package, RRSP contributions, a Wellness Allowance and uniforms.

Wage range: $18.50-$20.00 depending on experience and skill set.

This position is an existing vacancy.

5001-10,000

NVA Canada is a rapidly growing community of Canadian veterinary hospitals and passionate professionals dedicated to serving the local needs of pets and their owners. For the love of animals and the people who love them.

Globally, the NVA community tops 1500 veterinary hospitals and pet resorts in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. Over 35,000 veterinary professionals work to improve the well-being of patients by providing progressive and compassionate veterinary care. In Canada, we have over 140 practices in every province, coast-to-coast.

Since the first hospital joined NVA in 1997, founding veterinarian Dr. Stanley Creighton has emphasized support for the local medical standards established by individual doctors and practices. He has always believed that when veterinarians craft strategies specific to their own hospitals and communities, high quality patient care and client services follow.

This vision for local empowerment and servant leadership continues at NVA Canada today. We are partners in possibility, making new professional tools and resources available to hospitals, supporting with recruiting, administration and management, and caring for caregivers so the Canadian community can continue to grow and thrive.
