About the role

Summary of Duties

The main functions of the RN in the high risk clinics include, but are not limited to:

  • Reports to the Patient Care Manager

  • Provides antepartum/postpartum care to patients experiencing a complicated pregnancy

  • Conducts patient assessment, intervention, education, patient advocacy & labour and delivery planning

  • Provides care in the context of the interprofessional team and strives to give excellent care throughout the patient’s hospital experience

  • Collaborates with other members of the health care team in those activities which facilitate the operation of the unit and in providing excellent patient/family-centred health care

  • Maintains all core certifications as a requirement of employment

  • Provides bereavement and subsequent pregnancy counselling as required

  • Collaborates with other members of the health care team in those activities which facilitate the operation of the clinic and in providing excellent patient/family-centred health care.

  • Supports the philosophy of family-centred maternity care & the Mission, Vision & Values of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Current CNO Registration in good standing required.
  • Minimum 5 years related obstetric RN experience in Tertiary care setting required
  • Recent, related High Risk Clinics experience, preferred
  • Recent experience with assisting with Amniocentesis, CVS, and other obstetrical procedures preferred
  • IV and Phlebotomy skills required
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication & interpersonal skills are essential.
  • BCLS Certification required
  • Mandatory Certified Diabetic Educator (may be in progress)
  • Current FHS certification through UBC mandatory
  • Experienced computer skills including IntelliSpace Perinatal, Sunnycare, Acurro required
  • Demonstrated interest in personal professional development
  • Demonstrated experience in conflict management
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated team player with the proven ability to set priorities of care
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence based practice
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with members of the interprofessional team
